Department of Anatomy
- The department of Anatomy was established with the Iraqi Medical College in 1927
- The old building of the dept. is present now in the Faculty building, the dept. moved to its current location in 1953
- The department was managed since established till now by many efficient academic figures, they were in the historical order:
Dr. Hans, Dr. Baithoon Rassam, Dr. Fakhrin Al-Shanawi, Dr. Ali G. Yassin (twice), Dr. Mohammed H. Abdul-Aziz, Dr. Abdulsattar Fadhil, Dr. Mahmood Hayawi, Dr. Hani Al-Azzawi, Dr. Haithem Al-Baghdadi, Dr. Fadhil Al-Khafaji, Dr. Raith Al-Saffar, Dr. Maan Al-Khalisi, Dr. Nameer T. George, Dr. Nawfal K. Yaas Al-Hadithi (present)
The department of Anatomy includes in addition to Gross Anatomy, the following sections:
1- Histology section.
2- Embryology section.
3- Medical Biology section
Mission of the department:
To provide medical students with a basic understanding of the structural organization of the human body at the gross (macroscopical) & microscopical levels with special emphasis on the applied aspect of the science.
Objectives of the department:
1- To provide the students with knowledge in Anatomy (and related branches; Histology, Embryology & Medical Biology) sufficient for them to be involved in their future practice as an efficient & safe primary health care physicians.
2- In this knowledge, the department is viewing the recent advances in these disciplines as well as the application of the gained knowledge in clinical practice (up to date & clinically oriented knowledge).
3- Stimulate & direct students to gain knowledge relevant to their future field by adding information from sources other than the adopted college programs.
4- To graduate postgraduate candidates fit in their knowledge & research capabilities to be teaching staff members & researchers in Anatomy & relevant sub-branches.
5- To stimulate the teaching staff members & postgraduate candidates in research work taking in consideration the recent international trend in research work.
6- Promote communication skills for students by doing seminars & side discussions during practical lessons.
Duties of the department:
I) Undergraduate studies:
- Teaching theory lectures in Anatomy, Histology, Embryology & Medical Biology using the up to date teaching materials & taking in consideration the newest advances in these branches, with special eye kept on clinical correlation with this basic material.
- Teaching practical lessons, using embalmed cadavers, plastic models, X-ray films, slides ...etc
- Making side tabulated di
